Chartwell

Red brick solid, resolute and imposing, high over the Kentish Weald, Chartwell sits as if a monument to its most famous occupant.

Sir Winston Churchill, Britain’s Prime Minister between 1940-1945 and 1951-1955, who successfully led the country through World War Two, lived at Chartwell from 1922 until his death in 1965. Here he enjoyed his family, his ambitious gardening projects and his now famous painting skills. He once wrote that at Chartwell there was “never a dull or idle moment from morning to midnight”.
