Description
Aylesford Village
Aylesford, in the north west quarter of Kent, is deeply steeped in history – in fact, as far back as prehistoric times. There are still visible remains of one such burial chamber and an Iron Age cemetery where Bronze Age relics have also been found. This drawing features the 14th century ragstone bridge across Kent’s major river Medway. Fortunately now open only to pedestrians, the bridge was once the only crossing place other than by ferry between the principal Medway towns of Maidstone and Rochester.
